Every
human heart has five basic needs which need to be satisfied
in order for us to be fully alive:
1)
The need for meaning: Why am I here? What is my purpose
in life? Is there life after death?
2)
The need for identity: Who am I? How can I become a mature
human being?
3)
The need for satisfaction: We were all created with a deep
longing to love and be loved.
4)
The need for freedom: How can I be set free from my hang
ups and addictions; from those negative patterns and sins?
5)
The need for Hope: How can I live with optimism in the midst
of a negative world?
Some
people try to fill these needs through religion, trying to
follow a set of rituals to find peace. Unfortunately they
can never be "good enough" and they end up frustrated
and defeated.
Others
try to fill these needs by living independently from God.
"I will find my own happiness; I will pursue my own dreams."
Sadly, these folks end up with broken hearts and shattered
dreams.
God
has a better plan, He prepared the people of Israel to be
His peculiar people and He promised them a Messiah, Jesus
Christ came to this world, lived the perfect life we could
not live and died on the Cross to fully satisfy the justice
of God and offer new life for those who believe in Him. Jesus,
no other man has spoken like Him, He has risen from the dead
and is the Savior and Lord of History!
"Jesus
came and stood among them and said, 'Peace be with you.'
Then he said to Thomas, 'Put your finger here; see my hands.
Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting
and believe.' Thomas said to him 'My Lord and my God.' Then
Jesus told him, 'Because you have seen me, you have believed;
blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
John 20:26-29
In
religion, we try to reach for God, but in Christ, the risen
Savior and Lord, God has reached down to us! He is seeking
you and longs for a personal intimate relationship with you!
Saying
Yes to Jesus is simple and yet profound. It is the most important
decision you will ever make because it has eternal consequences.
Saying
yes to Jesus implies a willingness to surrender your whole
being to Him by faith!
The Bible says "If you confess with your mouth and believe
in your heart that Jesus Christ is Lord, you will be saved."
Saying
Yes to Jesus is the beginning of the most exciting adventure
there is. When you say Yes to Jesus you become part of God'
family and can begin a process of incredible transformation
by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Prayer
of surrender to Jesus
"Father
God, thank you for sending Jesus to this world. Thank you
for reaching out to me, for pursuing me. I am in desperate
need of you, Lord. Just like Thomas, I've been hardened by
my unbelief. Please give me faith to follow you.
I
want to say today Jesus, you are my Lord and my God. I surrender
all to you! I renounce Satan and all his demons, I renounce
the world and its destructive forces, I renounce my own sinful
nature and its deceitful ways. Please forgive me, change my
heart and fill me with your Holy Spirit. Give me a sense of
purpose and direction. Satisfy the longings of my heart with
your unfailing love and transform me into a new person. Give
me a new sense of hope.
I
want to be your disciple Jesus, rule over my life as Lord,
lead me and guide me every step of the way and get me involved
in your mission."
In
Jesus' name, I pray! Amen."
